About
About GEOhandbook
An independent, source-cited field guide to Generative Engine Optimization. No vendor pitches. No AI slop. Every non-obvious claim links to a primary source.
Why this handbook exists
Every marketing outlet is now publishing on GEO, most of it interchangeable. GEOhandbook exists to be the practical, cited, opinionated reference site that treats you like a professional — the kind of resource a marketing lead can send to their team and their developer and know both will get value.
Editorial standards
- Every non-obvious claim is linked to a primary source. Traffic-decline percentages, citation ratios, AI Overview reach numbers — all cited inline, no aggregated “according to reports.”
- We source the sources. When we cite Onely citing Gartner, we say so.
- We update, not rewrite. Pages get a visible “Last updated” date and dated change notes when a claim changes.
- We admit uncertainty. Where the industry disagrees (for example on whether
llms.txtmoves the needle), we say so on both sides.
Who this is for
- Marketers who need a defensible narrative for their leadership team.
- Webmasters and developers who need to ship the technical work without wading through vendor pitches.
- Content teams who need to change how they write to survive the shift to answer engines.
Editorial disclosure
GEOhandbook shows Google AdSense advertising to support the site. Ad placements are labelled and never influence editorial coverage. See our disclosure page for detail.

The site is built with Eleventy and deployed on Cloudflare Pages. The source is intentionally boring — HTML, CSS and a tiny amount of JavaScript — because GEO rewards boring HTML.
